| Lost 2.5 inches in two months. Great way to exercise, just make sure you have plenty of space between you and the wall or other objects. It's quiet and you can watch TV or listen to music without noise from equipment. I've recommended it to everyone I know. This model breaks down and has a case so you can bring it anywhere. |

Well, I saw a segment on the local news a few months ago touting the benefits and ease-of-use of exercising with a weighted hula hoop. Since it's weighted, "anyone" can do it....apparently not 46 year-old fat guys....
Anyway, when I saw the story, I thought I'd try to find a weighted hula hoop in local sporting goods stores. Not in Oklahoma...So I did some looking on the internet and found this product on Amazon. I was very excited when I found this product because I was eager to get exercising and since it had it's own travel box, I could take it with me on trips as my very own portable gym. I ordered it immediately. It shipped out very quickly and arrived at my door within a few days...
It showed up and I was very impressed as to how easy and quick it was to assemble. I read through the instructions on how to use it. I tried it. I re-read the instructions on how to use it. I tried it again....and again...and again...Seems that 2-to-3 seconds was the most I could keep it going...I got my 14 year old daughter over to try it, since she's never been able to keep a hula hoop up ever in her life either... It took her about 5 minutes of trying before she mastered it...So I tried it again...and again...and again...(you get the picture)....
Sadly, I have messed with this thing for over a month now and still can't keep it going for more than 3 or 4 seconds. I usually try it for about 5 to 10 minutes a day before giving up...At the moment, it seems hell-bent on fulfilling it's ultimate destiny...a garage sale.... :(
So why did I give this product 4 Stars?

Good:
1. It shipped quickly.
2. It was easy to assemble.
3. It's very portable...I love the travel case.
4. It came with proper instructions and warnings. I really can't blame the makers for my inability to make the product work since there's nothing on it claiming that it's so easy, even a 46 year-old fat guy can do it...
5. It seems very durable and sturdy. Nice quality.
Not so Good:
1. This hula hoop digs into your sides with it's pointy "grooves". It takes a lot of "getting used to" so expect to be sore and possibly bruised around your waist. Also, it's smart to wear jeans while using it if you are prone to failure in it's use. It's heavy and will really really hurt when it drops and hits your shins, ankles, and feet...trust me...
Conclusion

On the surface, this product is very attractive, elegant, and looks like fun...In my experience with it, it's very frustrating, painful, and demoralizing; kinda like a really really mean girlfriend. |

I'm an exercise/sports equipment junkie, and when I saw this hula hoop I just had to have it to add to my collection. The few times I've used it I enjoyed it...you can watch TV, or not, while using it and don't have to worry about counting, cadence, keeping up, etc. I haven't been on a strict program with it yet, so don't really know if it will whittle the waist as stated, but I do wear a heart rate monitor while using it and my heart rate gets on up there! I didn't get bruised like other reviewers stated they did, just a little sore when first using it. I'm going to get the smaller one for my granddaughter for her birthday...she loves to do workouts with me when possible, and I believe this will help instill in her the desire to keep it up.
The hoop comes apart and can be stored in the great little case it comes with, but it doesn't take up much space to keep it out and ready for use. It's pretty portable and would be easy to take anywhere for a workout. I like this hoop! |
